Senior Life in Texas
Texas has a much lower than national average of residents who are over the age of 65. Currently, 9.9% of Texas residents are seniors. The US average is 12.4%. This percentage can be deceiving, since there are still over 2,329,000 seniors in Texas. This number will most certainly rise in the coming years, as well as the need for assisted living and long term care in Texas.
Economy:
Texas has the second largest state economy in the country, behind California. Its economy is also among the most diverse, with agriculture, manufacturing, energy and corporate commerce abundant throughout the state. The biggest employment sectors in Texas are health, education and government services, followed by retail. In addition to its famous oil and gas industries though, Texas also has a burgeoning high-tech economy, including an area that has become known as the “Silicon Prairie” and is home to dozens of internet and communications companies.
Noteworthy:
While Texas deserves its reputation for having “wide open spaces,” nearly two-thirds of Texans live in cities. |
