Senior Life in North Carolina
North Carolina has a slightly lower than national average of residents who are over the age of 65. Currently, 12.1 % of North Carolina residents are seniors. The US average is 12.4%. There are currently over 1,071,000 seniors in North Carolina. This number will most certainly rise in the coming years, as well as the need for assisted living and long term care in North Carolina.
Economy:
Although North Carolina is known as a tobacco state, agriculture as a whole makes up less than 2 percent of its economy. Manufacturing (particularly textiles, chemicals and paper products,) is by far the economic foundation of the state. Increasingly though, North Carolina is modernizing into an economy based technology, finance and scientific research. Charlotte is home to Bank of America and Wachovia and is considered the second biggest banking city in the United States, behind New York City.
Noteworthy:
North Carolina is home to many of the top colleges in the country, including a 17-school public university system. |
