Senior Life in New York
New York State has a slightly higher than national average of residents who are over the age of 65. Currently, 13.1 % of New York residents are seniors. The US average is 12.4%. There are currently over 2,500,000 seniors in New York. This number will most certainly rise in the coming years, as well as the need for assisted living and long term care in New York.
Economy:
New York is considered the financial capital of the world. Most major market transactions pass through New York City (at least electronically) and all of the world's leading financial firms have operations there. The city is the fifth leading tourist destination in the world and Times Square is the biggest tourist destination in the country. But outside of the city, manufacturing, government and health services and agriculture are big. Though famous for its apples, New York is a top producer of a wide variety of foods, and over a quarter of its area is farmland.
Noteworthy:
New York has the 8th highest per capita income in the world. |
