Senior Life in Michigan
Michigan residents over the age of 65 make up 12.5% of the total population. This is just slightly higher than the 12.4% average for the US. There are over 1,260,000 seniors living in Michigan. This number will most certainly grow in the coming years, as well as the need for assisted living, adult foster care and long term care in Michigan.
Economy:
Despite being hit hard by job losses over the past few decades, the state remains one of the main manufacturing hubs in North America. 34 Fortune 500 companies call Michigan home. Its most famous output is automobiles, as evidenced by its two top corporate presences, GM and Ford. Michigan is also a big agriculture state, second only to California in crop diversity. Tourism adds $17.5 billion per year to the economy.
Noteworthy:
Hunting in Michigan is a $2 billion per year industry. Three-quarters of a million hunters flock there for deer season alone. |
