Senior Life in Connecticut
Connecticut has a higher than national average of residents over the age of 65. Currently, there are 13.4% of Connecticut residents who fall into this category (the national average is 12.4%). As of the 2006 census, there were just under 500,000 'seniors' living in Connecticut. Connecticut has a wide variety of assisted living facilities and senior care options to choose from with varying degrees of services and amenities.
Economy:
Connecticut derives most of its revenue from manufacturing, which has been a staple of its economy since the industrial revolution. Defense contractors like United Technologies and General Electric produce high-tech military products, and gun manufacturers like Colt and Marlin all call Connecticut home. In addition, many of the country's financial services and health insurance companies operate out of the state, particularly the city of Hartford. Yale University is one of the Connecticut's largest employers.
Noteworthy:
Connecticut ratified North America's first constitution in 1639, which is why it's known as “The Constitution State.” |
