“Yours was one of several sites that I looked at when I was trying to figure the best place to retire. I liked the capsule description of the states.”

Senior Life in California

California is a wonderful state to spend your retirement in, and if you are in need of assisted living, California has numerous options to choose from in almost every city and town. Although California has a lower percentage (10.8%) of people over the age of 65 than the national average of 12.4%, there are still almost 4 million residents over 65 in the state (2006 census). This number will continue to grow, as will the need for assisted living and health care options.

Economy:

California is by far the largest state economy in the United States and has a higher Gross Domestic Product than all but 8 countries internationally. Its biggest industries are education and health services, trade, transportation, utilities, and real estate. California produces more food than any other state, with a $31 billion industry. Probably the two most renowned California industries are entertainment and technology. The greater Los Angeles area is the entertainment capital of the United States and arguably the world, while many of the greatest technological developments of the past half century have come out of Northern California's Silicon Valley.

Noteworthy:

California produces 90 percent of the country's wine with its 1200 wineries making more than 17 million gallons per year.
