“Yours was one of several sites that I looked at when I was trying to figure the best place to retire. I liked the capsule description of the states.”

Senior Life in Arkansas

Arkansas has a higher than average percentage of people over the age of 65. According to the 2006 census, 13.8% of Arkansas residents are over 65, which is 1.4% over the national average. The need for assisted living in Arkansas, and the rest of the US has been growing as more of our 'baby boomers' enter their retirement years.

Economy:

In 2005, Little Rock was named Forbes Magazine's 22nd best city for business, and in 2009 the Brookings Institution ranked it the 7th best metropolitan economy in the United States. Arkansas (and its capital city in particular,) have been successful in luring some of the nation's largest companies like Raytheon, Siemens, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and AT&T. But the state's most famous residents are the Wal-Mart corporation (headquartered in Bentonville,) and Tyson Foods (based in Springdale).

Noteworthy:

In 2004, the $165 million William J. Clinton Presidential Center was dedicated in Little Rock. Clinton isn't the only famous Arkansan though, Johnny Cash and Douglas MacArthur also hail from the state.
