Travel Discounts for Seniors
Senior citizens make up a substantial part of the travel market. Because many have saved and planned throughout the later years of their working lives to enjoy their so-called “golden years” to their fullest, travel companies realize that attracting them is important for business. That means you will be able to find good senior travel deals. This is particularly true at a time when the travel industry at large is reeling from an economic downturn, but many seniors' vacation plans remain unaffected so attracting them is very important.
To receive senior citizen travel discounts, the first place to start is with an American Association of Retired Persons membership. This membership card is your ticket to discounts all over the country, and if you're traveling within the United States and do research ahead of time, you can probably manage to save everywhere you go while on vacation. In addition to the daily discounts you can expect everywhere from restaurants to movie theaters, be sure to research any discounts you can get on more expensive accommodations as well.
You can find senior travel discounts on hotel rooms, cruise lines, rental cars, tours, shows--- pretty much everything you might book in advance of your vacation. Ask your travel agent to help you find these discounts, or go to the AARP website and use their search tools to find them yourself. Often if you book a senior travel package, you can receive a more substantial senior discount than if you book everything separately.
Airlines often offer various forms of senior discount membership programs, but often you'd be better off searching for regularly discounted flights if you're not traveling during peak months—you usually can't take advantage of your membership benefits and a discounted fare from a website like Priceline or Expedia at the same time. |
