Tulsa is Oklahoma’s second-largest city, situated on the Arkansas Rive in the northeast part of the state. The transcontinental railroad attracted settlers to the city, and soon it became a significant cattle-shipping center. Near the turn of the 19th century, huge oil deposits were discovered at Red Fork and Glenn Pool, and Tulsa, the city underwent a rapid evolution to a major center of petroleum industry. Other major parts of the local economy include aerospace, chemicals, computer components, automobile glass, fabricated metals, and industrial machinery. The city is now large inland port as well, having opened port of Catoosa in 1971.
